That depends on what you are looking to see. Many mothers like coming in twice, early on, 15-26 weeks, when they can see the baby as a whole, and then again at 25-34 weeks to see a more detailed face. Between 28 and 32 weeks, your baby develops more fat and gets a more defined face. After 34 weeks, it becomes more and more difficult to obtain good pictures since the baby is running out of room. However all babies are different and we have been successful in obtaining great images all the way up to 39 weeks.
2D ultrasound is the traditional method of using soundwaves to generate a photo of inside the womb. This method produces a black and white thermal image. 3D ultrasound is a more advanced method, still using soundwaves, to capture a much more detailed image of your baby. Distinct features and even facial expressions can usually be captured with this process. 4D ultrasound is the most advanced method which captures moving, detailed video images of your baby in utero.
Yes! There is no risk to either mom or baby. And, the procedure is completely painless.
In most cases, yes. However, variables such as too little fluid, your body type, position of your baby when the procedure is conducted, etc. can limit our abilities. We will capture the absolute best images possible. If we are unable to capture your baby’s face during your visit, you can come back for a second time – free of charge – and we will take another peek.
Hydration can play a key role in capturing clear images. We recommend drinking plenty of water for at least one week prior to your appointment. Please wear comfortable, loose clothing.
Most insurance plans do not cover 3D/4D ultrasound because they are elective procedures. Check with your plan to verify benefits. We offer affordable out-of-pocket options.
Yes. The procedures we perform are elective, not diagnostic. Our 3D/4D ultrasounds are not designed to replace ones recommended by your physician.
It is our number one priority at Carolina Baby 3D to obtain the absolute best images of your baby & make sure you are satisfied to the fullest. We use the top of the line ultrasound equipment to ensure this, however, some factors that determine the outcome of your ultrasound are out of our control such as: location of your placenta, the amount of amniotic fluid surrounding your baby, the clarity of the amniotic fluid, the baby’s position, & the overall fetal environment. If we are unable to determine the gender of your child or obtain 3D/4D images at your scheduled appointment due to these factors mentioned above, you will be asked to reschedule & come back for a second appointment within the next 14 days at no charge.
Yes! We encourage you to bring your friends and family to share this special moment with you. Children are also welcome and we provide them with plenty of toys and books to keep them entertained. At our Hilton Head Island, SC location our ultrasound room can comfortably seat 3-4 people, but more are welcome if they would like to stand and watch. The ultrasound is projected onto a TV screen so that everyone is able to see with ease.
